Freedom through restriction: Fiction workshop with Joe Dunthorne
Is it possible to find freedom through restraint when writing? Form isn’t just about maintaining a shape or structure in your work – exploring form and restraint can actually push your imagination in exciting, unexpected directions.
From choose-you-own-adventure stories to speed writing to Oulipian word games, this experimental workshop with Joe Dunthorne will offer ways to disrupt tired habits and keep your fiction fresh.
Over the course of the day you and your fellow students will become, in the words of Raymond Queneau, "rats who construct the labyrinth from which we plan to escape." And even if you don't escape, you will have fun trying!
